<![CDATA[Sweet Berry Farm, Marble Falls, Texas - Fresh News]]>Thu, 20 Feb 2025 15:54:14 -0600Weebly<![CDATA[Tuesday February 18, 2025]]>Wed, 19 Feb 2025 00:39:27 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/tuesday-february-18-2025Wow, that's what you call a cold front! Warm this morning and then about 3pm the front blew through and things changed quickly. A cold couple of days is in the forecast with temps tomorrow night predicted in the teens. I would prefer it stay in the 20's but I wasn't asked. The Strawberries and Ranunculus are covered which should mitigate any profound damage from hard freezing weather. The Tulips will love it!

Lets see how the next few days shake out but I would not be surprised to be announcing an Farm Opening in two weeks. Get ready! ]]>
<![CDATA[Wednesday February 12, 2025]]>Wed, 12 Feb 2025 20:52:30 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/wednesday-february-12-2025 A lot to do and not much time to do it in .......... or in reality ........ a lot to do and we don't feel like there is enough time to do it in. We are guilty of making this long list of things to get done and then going in panic mode by its length. If we just pick one thing at a time off the list it all gets done with ample time to spare.

Seeing Tulip sprouts gives us the jitters and puts in a time crunch. Those shoots should mean we are within three weeks of flowers, warm weather advances the plants and cold weather retards them. At the moment, our best guess is too be open by the end of this month Yes! Yikes! We moved the Tulip field to a another part of the farm where we could increase its size by 2/3rds over last year. This means setting up check in/check out barn and places to wrap the flowers. Then there is the issue of getting the rest of the Farm ready to open while dealing with nuisance freezes.

This year is playing right along with the last few. A very cold spell (two weeks ago), followed by a big warm up (last week), followed by "is going to freeze tonight or not?" (this week). The Strawberry fields are loaded with blooms so we are not taking any chances. Most of the fields have frost covers on them for the rest of this week. The forecast for the next few days flirts with 32 degree nights.

As mentioned, the Strawberry plants are in good shape and loaded with blooms that should equate to early March berries. It is going to be a great year, especially if you can make it out. We will start posting more often to keep everyone informed. ]]>
<![CDATA[Friday January 17, 2025]]>Fri, 17 Jan 2025 22:23:55 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/friday-january-17-2025Happy New Year!!! We hope you had a wonderful Holiday season and a great start to the new year.

We have been busy/not busy here on the Farm. There are lots of things to do but we are not doing them too fast. That is about to change though as Spring time marches forward. It is hard to say Spring Time with frigid temperatures in the forecast in the coming days.

The Strawberry plants have been covered with Frost Covers We are not trying to protect blooms at this time, instead we are attempting to keep the plants in the upper teens or above. Mid to low teens are in the forecast for early next week. The covers normally give us about 5 degrees or so of warmth.. Strawberry plants are pretty cold hardy and will easily live through ten degrees but the emerging bloom is not as tough and could be damaged even down in the crown of the plant.. Generally, we have this artic blast in mid January, a warm up late January and then nuisance freezes between warm spells through February/March. Overall the plants seem to be in pretty good shape. We have thousands more viable plants at this time compared to previous years so we are hoping for a stellar season. Things can change on a dime but ....... so far, so good!

Tulips! Ranunculus! and more flowers! 30,000 Ranunculus have been planted as well as 90,000 Tulips and a few thousand other flowers. Tulips will be first in late February followed by Ranunculus in March. Last year was a tough Tulip season. We were only able to secure 30,000 bulbs and while they did come up and we had a lot of flowers, the field was just not very impressive. Hopefully by tripling the planting the field will be more picture worthy and a greater selection of flowers will be available. Tulip season is a tricky animal with more things to go wrong than right. Here we go though as we give it another shot.

<![CDATA[Saturday November 30th]]>Sat, 30 Nov 2024 18:43:36 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/saturday-november-30thLast Call for Fall!
Tomorrow will be the last day of the fall season.
We will have berry picking, hayrides, mazes, and more! The Farm will close for winter Dec. 2nd and remain closed until we see tulip blooms (typically in late February). We want to thank all of our amazing customers for a truly special fall!]]>
<![CDATA[Tuesday evening November 26]]>Wed, 27 Nov 2024 00:05:32 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/tuesday-evening-november-26We are loving this wonderful weather! Even the cloudy days like today are amazing. After a little warmup tomorrow we are in store for some very nice Fall'ish days Friday, Saturday and Sunday when we will be picking amazingly red luscious juicy Strawberries and continuing the Fall activities.
Last weekend was fantastic Strawberry picking and I think we are in store for about the same this weekend. Friday and Saturday morning will have the greatest availability. I would expect to have plenty of Strawberries to pick all weekend. We will throw up a post Saturday night just to let Sunday's folks know what the field looks like. Berries picked in under 70 degree weather tend to last a little longer but I still recommend eating or processing them within a day or two of picking. We have not been able to pick any and test shelf life ----- someone always eats them!
The Fall Activities are still in play minus Pony rides and Flower Picking. Unbelievably the Mazes are still holding up for the most part.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, we wish you all the happiest of Holidays and if you find yourself looking for something to do - come see us this weekend.

<![CDATA[Saturday November 23rd]]>Sat, 23 Nov 2024 23:37:49 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/saturday-november-23rdWoooooo-eeee! We sure got some great strawberry pickers out to the farm today! Tomorrow’s picking will still be great because we’re opening up a whole new field! If you’ve been before you know the one I’m talking about! Berry picking will happen on the side of the road with the White House on it. Park there to get your berries and head to the other side to enjoy all the Farm’s activities and our famous popsicles! Can’t wait to see great strawberry picking again tomorrow]]><![CDATA[Thursday November 21]]>Thu, 21 Nov 2024 22:08:07 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/thursday-november-21What a beautiful day! And it looks like this gorgeous weather will continue through Sunday. The Farm is open Friday through Sunday for more Fall Fun activities and Strawberries to pick. Last night was a bit colder than expected. The Zinnia plants were killed in the freeze so flower picking is finished for the year. They were amazing but now time to think about Tulips in February of next year. We don’t see much damage to the Berries but pickers will want to inspect their berries as they are picked. It is normal to occasionally pick a berry that might not meet your criteria. Just discard it on the ground and step on it, please don’t hide it back under the leaves :). It is going to be a great relaxing few days - we hope you can make it out.]]><![CDATA[Saturday November 16th]]>Sat, 16 Nov 2024 22:56:17 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/saturday-november-16thIt was another beautiful day on the farm! Lots of berries left the farm with lots more still in the field! In my opinion the berries are the perfect size and shape for some chocolate dipped strawberries. We will have lots of farm activities going tomorrow including pumpkin patch, mazes, hayrides, and more! Sunday will be the last day you can pick strawberries and enjoy the farm until next week! We are open Fridays thru Sundays in November. Stay tuned for updates on the farm for next week!

<![CDATA[Friday November 15, 2024]]>Sat, 16 Nov 2024 02:41:44 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/friday-november-15-2024 Today was a beautiful day! And tomorrow looks like it might be close to the same. The Farm will be open with all the Fun Fall Activities AND Fresh Strawberries to pick. The Berries picked today were absolutely gorgeous, I wanted to eat every single one that came out of the field. There will be a good supply to start the day tomorrow. If the crowds are similar to last weekend, I would expect to have Strawberries to pick most if not all of Saturday. but earlier is always better. We will just have to wait until tomorrow evening before we can determine availability for Sunday. It all depends on freezing weather as to how much longer we will have berries to pick. Stay tuned here for weekly updates. Hope to see you soon!!]]><![CDATA[Wednesday 11/13/24]]>Thu, 14 Nov 2024 01:14:17 GMThttps://sweetberryfarm.com/fresh-news/wednesday-111324These November weekends are pretty nice and easy going. The weather is a bit milder and everyone seems more relaxed and laid back.
We have a surprise for folks coming out on Friday —— fresh Strawberries! The plants we planted a month ago are putting on some fruit that is ready to be picked. Strawberries are 3.50 per pound plus 1.50 for the picking box. It looks to me like we have about 150 pounds in the field to pick. As soon as those are gone it will be another week before more are ready It just depends on Fridays crowd whether or not we have berries for Saturday. Yum yum, hope to see you soon.
